FALLING TILES

Hospital Problem

Tiles were still falling from walls and breaking up from floors at Princess Margaret Hospital, it was reported at yesterday’s meeting of the North Canterbury Hospital Board.

The superintendent of works said this would probably continue until all original tiles had been replaced. Many of the patterns were now out of production and near colours were being used. Tiles refixed or replaced had remained firm. The cost of replacements so far was £4724.

Tiles fixed with modern adhesive were quite all right, said the chairman, Dr. L. C. L. Averill. “It has been a bit of a worry to the board,” he said. Members were told that considerable difficulty had been experienced with smoke in service ducts at Princess Margaret Hospital. At the request of the Cashmere subsidiary committee, up-to-date estimates were being obtained for a filtration plant for the swimming pool.
