UNINFORMED CRITICISM

Engineers And Town Planning

Town-planning authorities have been a target for much uninformed and ill-informed criticism, the chairman of the Canterbury branch of the Institution of Engineers (Mr P. G. Scoular) said last evening.

Engineers must have informed and helpful criticism of the projects they study or visit, he said. They often criticised a part of a proposal and took it out of the context of the whole scheme. Sometimes the criticism of a part of a proposal was valid, but if it was out of context it was of little use. Engineers should be careful to study all the details before offering criticism, Mr Scoular said.
