Rangiora A “Target*’
Rangiora has been selected by the Aid Rhodesia Movement as one of the “target” electorates where electors will be urged to abstain from voting to express disgust at the Government’s policy on Rhodesia.
Although Rangiora is not rated as a marginal seat, it is nearly one, the movement says in a statement. A second reason for selecting Rangiora was that the present member of Parliament, Mr H. E. L. Pickering, had made a number of inaccurate statements on Rhodesia. “We aim to reduce the margin between the two main political parties to a state where the result of a by-elec-tion could be decisive,” the statement says. “Our action is also a protest against the Government policy of sanctions and the refusal of the Broadcasting Corporation to permit the facts to be given on Rhodesia.”
