PRESIDENT ON POLICY

Queries About W.E.A. Speaker “The Canterbury Workers’ Educational Association has received queries concerning its sponsorship of Mr Robert Resha, an African National Congress representative, who spoke at the W.E.A. on Tuesday evening,” said the president (the Rev. D. J. Inglis). Mr Inglis said: “The constitution says the W.E.A. is non-party political and non-sectarian in religion and this is strictly being adhered to, but, on the other hand, the W.E.A. feels that it has to do all within its power to assist the public in endeavouring to make an objective educational account of local, national, tnd international events.

“By so doing it must necessarily take into cognisance minority views. If these are unpopular with the public, then the task of the W.E.A. is being furthered in that it is widening the horizons of people. “By allowing its premises to be used for this purpose, it does not necessarily follow that the W.E.A. supports the views of speakers, but is prepared to hear their assessments on any given question.”
