SUNDAY PLAY

May Retire Too Early (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. The chairman of the Wellington Cricket Association, Mr R. A. Vance, said yesterday that an effect of Plunket Shield matches on Sundays would be players retiring too early. Mr Vance said players with families would retire five years too soon. He could not have played as long as he did if he had had to play on Sundays. Mr N. W. Brooks said that associations not wishing to play on Sundays should not be made to. Those who did, should be able to arrange their programmes with others also in favour. Mr Vance said he would be surprised if the New Zealand Cricket Council could force associations to play on Sundays. “They could not, anyway, when they know it is impossible to play on Sundays in Wellington,” he added.
