Bowling Centre Rules

Sir,—May I ask the chairman of the Christchurch Bowling Centre’s match committee the following questions? One club in the Christchurch centre found its champion fours team without a second. He had to leave Christchurch on business and the skip obtained a substitute. However, before the playing of the champion fours competition, his lead met with an accident and he then substituted, to lead for him, a player who had in his club competition played as a second. The rules state that only one substitute is allowed in this competition. Further, any substitute must play only in the position he occupied in his club championship. Was this team not out of order completely with two substitutes, one playing in his wrong position? I have verified these facts and I would appreciate an answer.—Yours, ptc BOWLER. October 26, 1966. [The chairman of the Christchurch Bowling Centre’s match committee (Mr M. A. LeCren) replies: “Your correspondent has correctly quoted extracts from the conditions governing the fours champion of champions comnetition which are fully de.scribed on pages 125-126 in the current fixutre book. He is also correct in his assumption that a four playing with two substitutes or a substitute not chosen from the correct grading would be violating these conditions and be liable to disqualification on discovery. Any ruling, however, on an actual case can be given only after the full facts and all relevant matters are disclosed in writing to the centre match committee.”]
