Red Arrows The Red Arrows, the premier aerobatic squadron of the Royal Air Force which is led by New Zealand-born Squadron Leader R. G. Hanna, has had a record season—Bs displays presented without casualty in 11 countries. Squadron Leader Hanna says there was great competition among R.A.F. pilots for a place in the team, but emphasised the importance of personality rather than skill. “There is no room for primadonnas,” he said.—London, November 1. Lucky Five The prize in a lucky-num-ber competition at a garden fete at a Remuera home proved very apt. It was a set of five decorated toy ducks, an odd prize not suited to everyone. However, the winner was Mrs S. Lawson, mother of the quintuplets. She said five was her lucky number. Fine Day
The weather in Christchurch yesterday was fine, with a moderate to fresh north-easterly wind. The highest temperature at Harewood was 60 degrees at noon, and 57 degrees was recorded at the Botanic Gardens at 3 p.m. At 6 a.m. the temperature at Harewood was 38 degrees; at 9 a.m. 54 degrees, and at 3 p.m. 57 degrees.
