Two Rugby League Men Honoured

'J’HE Canterbury Rugby League schoolboys’ board conferred life memberships upon two of its leading administrators, Messrs J. A. Mercer and A. D. Meadows, at its annual general meeting last week. Mr Meadows holds the position of president and Mr Mercer is the board’s vice-patron. The honour culminated 35 years’ association with the code for Mr Meadows, who joined the Sydenham club as a schoolboy player in 1931. He later played for Waimairi (now Papanui) and Addington. Mr Meadows was president of the Papanui club in 1954 and 1955, became a

' delegate to the schoolboys’ ’ board in 1951 and was elected to the board in 1953-54 ; and again in 1959. He has , since held the positions of deputy chairman (1960-61), I chairman (1962-63). vicepresident (1964) and presi- , dent (1965-66). I Mr Mercer also held the i position of president before becoming the board’s > vice-patron. He represented ! the schoolboys’ board on the i senior board of control in • 1965. i At present Mr Mercer is • the senior vice-president of i the Marist club, having been elected to the position this - year.
