Statement Soon On £18m Development

AUCKLAND, October 11
A statement on the future of the £lB million development scheme planned for downtown Auckland is expected to be made within the next few days by the consortium which is to carry out the development.
Heads of the Mainline-Dil-lingham-Fletcher consortium and of companies expected to be associated with them in
the development project are due in Auckland shortly. Mr R. C. Baker, managingdirector of the Mainline Construction Pty., Ltd., of Sydney, is expected in Auckland on Sunday.
On Monday, Sir Geoffrey Crowther, chairman of directors of Trust Houses, Ltd., the biggest hotel and accommodation group in Britain, with his managing-director, Mr Michael Mathews, will arrive at Auckland. With them will be Mr Alan Greenway, managing-director of Motels of Australia, and Mr Roger Manfred, the general manager. The groups recently announced plans to spend £6 million building a chain of motels through New Zealand, Australia and Fiji. It is expected they will be associated in the 14-storey motor hotel to be built on the waterfront as the first stage of the towntown development scheme.
After discussions have been held between the visitors, Mr J C. Fletcher, managing-direc-tor of Fletcher Holdings, and Mr J. H. Churton, general manager of Fletcher Trust and Investment Company, Ltd., a statement is ex-pected to be issued.
