Gold Mint Prominent At Awapuni

ft The Press” Special Service PALMERSTON NORTH. Dervish and Gold Mint ran excellent trials for Trentham when they worked at Awapuni yesterday.

Dervish accompanied the Shorts Handicap candidate, Plantation, on the course proper. Gold Mint ran away from Mixed Reception over half a mile on the inside trial.

Showers during the night left the tracks wet, and times were not fast.

Dervish took Imin 19 4-ssec for six furlongs, Plantation bringing him home over the last half-mile and finishing a neck in front. Neither was happy in the ground, but Dervish was still impressive and looks a good prospect in the Wainui

Handicap if the track is firm. Plantation will resume in the Shorts Handicap. He could need a race.

Black Tudor, which is improving, worked over an easy mile and took 40 3-ssec for the last three furlongs. He worked well in his preparation for the Wainui Handicap, but a race or two might improve him.

Ichtar, another Wainui candidate, was impressive over three furlongs in 41 2-ssec, although he went easily. His trainer <A. S. Kaye) is very pleased with his progress. Ichtar will be one of the best prospects in the big mile. Rego Star, which is engaged in the Wellesley Stakes, took 41 2-ssec for three furlongs and worked keenly. He was second at Otaki so may have place prospects at Trentham.
