Nurses In Trousers
(Special Crspdt. N.Z P A.)
LONDON, October 10.
As the last shred of opposition to British Fashion fades away, trouser suits will soon be sported all over Britain—by the nursing profession. The latest “gear” wear for nurses, in terelene and cotton, are on show at the London nursing exhibition which opened at the Seymour Hall this week.
The trouser suits are currently being worn by nurses at a Devon hospital, where, in spite of initial criticism, they have now proved extremely popular. Apart from being more comfortable and more “mod.” the nurses say, the trouser suit is safer for working than the present uniform. In the operating theatre, nylon petticoats and stockings can cause friction explosions. Will opposition to the trouser suit from hospitals and administrative circles be too great for it to be worn? The long-awaited report on nurses’ uniforms by a Ministry of Health committee, which comes out at the end of the year, is expected to cause uproar in nursing circles.
