DEATH IN NIGERIA

Mr Robert Norwood (From th« London Corrorpndt. of "Th* Pratt") LONDON, Sept. 8. Mr Robert David Norwood, aged 45, formerly of Christchurch and Auckland, has died in Nigeria where he was employed by the Government as an architect for the last five years. Mr Norwood’s mother (Mrs Kathleen C. Cresswell), worried by conflicting reports about the circumstances of her son’s death last July, has been making inquiries through New Zealand House and the Nigerian Embassy in London, but has not yet received precise information about the cause of death. Mr Norwood was educated at Dilworth School, Auckland, where he returned as a headmaster during his first years at Auckland University. He was a pupil of the Christchurch Boys’ High School where he matriculated and represented the school in debating. He graduated in architecture at Auckland University after his return from four years* service in the Middle East In 1954 Mr Norwood, a bachelor, took up an appointment in Ghana, first at Kurnasi, where he undertook some “policing” responsibilities as well as practising his profession, then in Accra. From there he went to Northern Nigeria in 1961. At one stage he returned to New Zealand to look at university buildings design.

Mrs Cresswell was first president of the New Zealand Public Service Women’s Association, and is well known as a broadcaster.
