Happy—54 Years Later

(N.Z. Press Association > AUCKLAND, Sept. 18. A courtship which began at Pukekohe 54 years ago ended happily—if belatedly—in the Church of St. John the Evangelist at Otara, Auckland, yesterday. The occasion was the wedding of Miss Hazel Johnson, a former matron of a Melbourne hospital, and her former fiance, Mr A. E. Gee. When the' couple renewed

their friendship, they had not met for more than 50 years. New Zealand-born Miss Johnson and Mr Gee first met at a Pukekohe skating rink and later became engaged. The engagement was broken off, however, because Miss Johnson wanted to see the world. Mr Gee later married, but was left a widower. Today’s ceremony, attended by about 60 friends and relatives, follows a recent exchange of letters. Said a happy but reticent bride: “No, I don’t wish to say a few words.” Said an equally happy bridegroom: “Now we can continue where we left off.”
