School Choir Festival

A massed choir of more than 220, and more than 60 instrumentalists performed at the fifth Lincoln district schools’ music festival at the Lincoln District High School. Pupils from the Broadfield. Greenpark, Halswell. Hornby South, Ladbrooks. Lincoln. Prebbleton. Rolleston. and Springston schools participated in the festival which attracted an audience of more than 600. As well as items from the individual school choirs, there were 10 items from the massed choir under the baton of Mr J. S. Hosking. The accompanist was Mrs D. M. Halliday. An appreciative audience called for several encores from the children. The festival was opened by Mr D. M. Halliday, who appealed to the children to carry on their interest in music after they left school. Instruments represented at the festival included recorders, ukeleles, guitars, violins and percussion instruments. Mr R. Armstrong, the headmaster of Halswpll school, said there had been a considerable upsurge of interest in instrumental music in the last year. More attention was now being paid to this aspect by teachers.
