Geothermal Rights
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 11. A Geothermal Energy Amendment Bill introduced in Parliament on Friday will ensure that all rights to tap and use geothermal energy remain vested in the Crown—but permits borough and county councils to hold statutory licences from the Crown allowing them to tap and use the energy. The bill also empowers the Minister of Works to delegate his powers to borough and city councils tfr grant licences. This would allow councils to control the use and application of geothermal energy in their own areas.
