Diplomat Way Ry A Head (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) CHICAGO. The top United States jockey, W. Shoemaker, riding Diplomat Way, won the 367,700dollar Arlington-Washington Futurity Stakes for two-year-olds, the world’s richest thoroughbred race, on Saturday, United Press International reported. He won by a head from Wilbur Clark (E. Fires), with Light, ning Orphan (R. Broussard) third, a head further back. Diplomat Way ran the seven furlongs in Imin 22.6 sec—the second fastest time in the fiveyear history of the race. At New York’s Aqueduct racecourse, Swiss Cheese came from last place to win the 100,130dollar Matron Stakes for two-year-old fillies by a head and gave her owner. Mr C. V. Whitnby, his fifth winner of the race since 1931. Swiss Cheese ran the six furlongs in Imin 12.8 sec, coming with a withering run in the last 50 yards to overhaul the pacemaker, Great Era, with Regal Gleam a nose away third.
