Draughtsman To Retire After 40 Years’ Service

Mr A. V. Brown, divisional draughtsman for the Lands and Survey Department in Christchurch since 19«2, will retire on Wednesday after 40 years’ service with the department. Most of his service has been in the Christchurch office. J Mr Brown joined the department in Christchurch as a

draughting cadet on July 12. 1926. when it was in the provincial Council buildings Moat of his early career was in the land transfer division during the period of compulsory registration of titles. In 1942-43 he was engaged in topographical mapping in the Springfield area. He was responsible for the training of many young draughtsmen in the Christchurch land transfer office and more recently as district staff training officer. Mr Brown was transferred to the land planning division of the Ministry of Works in Wellington in April. 1945. He later helped to decentralise and establish the land planning drawing office in Christchurch. In June, 1947, he returned to the Lands and Survey Department as divisional draughtsman in the land transfer branch, Christchurch, where he remained until taking up his present appointment in March, 1962.
