Oyster Farm Losses High
(Spacial Crtpdt. N.Z.PA.) LONDON. Aug. 28.
Oysters imported from Portugal for fattening In British waters are dying off. Since last spring leading growers on the east coast of Britain have reported losses of up to 70 per cent. An official from the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries said the exceptionally high mortality rate was probably not due to disease. It is thought the cause was "constitutional weakness” in the oysters, which was not apparent at the time of their arrival in Britain.
