SINGLE PORT

Plan To Be Discussed

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, Aug. 28.

The establishment of only one overseas port in New Zealand is a revolutionary proposal to be discussed at a conference on handling and transportation techniques at Victoria University from November 29 to December 1.

The conference, organised by the Institution of Engineers, will critically examine modern developments with reference to New Zealand overseas trade.

The president of the Wellington branch of the institution (Mr I. D. Stevenson) said about 200 were expected to attend, including representatives of harbour boards, transport authorities, producer boards and private transport concerns. Mr Stevenson said other topics to be discussed included the establishment of one authority to control all transportation, and the attitude of the Federation of Labour and trade unions to the introduction of economies in cargo handling.
