The pacer, Bret Hanover, sold on Saturday for more than two million dollars, paid dividends for his new owners on Saturday night by winning a 25,000-dollar race at Batavia Downs in the track record time of 1:56.2.

The performance gave Bret Hanover another victory over his main rival, the 10-year-old New Zealand gelding. Cardigan Bay, which finished second, three lengths back. The victory was Bret Hanover’s fifty-eighth in 62 starts. Cardigan Bay is the only horse ever to beat Bret Hanover on a half-mile track.

Adios Vic has beaten Bret Hanover three times on onemile tracks. Bret Hanover was heavily favoured on the totalisator, paying only 2.40 dollars for two dollars to win.

The top money - winning pacer of all time, Bret Han over earned 12,500 dollars and raised his career total in three racing seasons to 872,852 dollars.

Castleton Farms of Lexington, Kentucky, bought Bret Hanover from Richard Downing, of Ohio, and plans to retire the four-year-old son of Adios - Brenna Hanover to stud next year.
