N.Z. CYCLE SUCCESS

Ist, 2nd At Hobart

(N.Z. Press Assn. —Copyright) HOBART.

Two New Zealanders, J. Dean (New Plymouth), and J. Danielson (Canterbury) took first and second placings in the thirtieth annual Laun-ceston-Hobart cycle race on Saturday. M. Leslie, of Hobart, was third.

Mr E. Scott, manager of the New Zealand team, said he was delighted with the team’s performance. “We did not ride to win or make time,” said Mr Scott. The other New Zealand riders looked after Dean during the race when it was evident the finish would be a solid sprint. They changed their tactics over the last 12 miles and Dean won well, said Mr Scott. His time of 4hr 55min for the 123-mile race was only the third time that five hours had been broken for the race.
