WELLINGTON, Aug. 28. Fire severely damaged part of the wing of a building occupied by Auckland district office of the Geological Survey in Otara road this afternoon. Firemen .had the blaze under control at 4.27 p.m., 37 minutes after they received the alarm.

The fire began in a storeroom containing ironsand samples from Waiuku which the department’s staff had gathered in an investigation for the steel mill to be built at Glenbrook. The office is a branch of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research.
