SEVEN ROAD DEATHS
Seven people died as a result of week-end road accidents in the North Island, the Press Association reports.
Five of the deaths were between 4 p.m. and 11.15 p.m. on Sat* urday.
Two men were killed when their car hit a telegraph pole six miles north of Marton on the main highway at 11.15 p.m. on Saturday. They were Peter Edward Butler, aged 38, of Marton, the driver, and Walter Watson Graham Goodare, aged 30, also of Marton. The car was travelling south. A farmer who heard the crash called the police. Girl Dies An 18-year-old Feilding girl was killed in an accident ( on the Bunnythome - Feilding highway about 4 a.m. on Saturday. She was Margaret May Victoria Jones, of Port street. Three other young persons suffered minor injuries, and six other teen-age passengers escaped injury. The injured are William Wayne Anderson, aged 20, of 728 Sandringham road, Auckland; Violet Marilyn Lanfear, aged 16, of North Street, Feilding: and Georgina Johnson, aged 18, of Collins crescent, Feilding. The accident occurred when a heavy truck, in which all
were travelling crashed through a fence near the Camerons line intersection, crossed the main trunk railway line, and overturned. Miss Jones was travelling on the tray of the vehicle with five others. The other four were in the cab. Killed In Collision A man was killed in a collision between a car and a bus at Ohau, five miles south of Levin, at 6.50 p.m. on Saturday. He was Ronald John Sando, aged 55, married, with five children, of Crewe crescent, Palmerston North. He was the driver and only occupant of a northbound car. The bus hit a telephone pole, bringing it down. None of the 36 passengers was injured. Died Of Injuries A woman died in Wellington Hospital yesterday from injuries suffered when she was hit by a truck at Porirua on Friday. She was Margaret Harbottle, of Temoto road, Pukerua Bay. Child Dies
A two-year-old girl was killed when she was struck
by a car in the driveway of a house in Palmerston North at 4 p.m. on Saturday. She was .
Vicki Maria Lyon, of 2 Bolton place, Palmerston North.
The police said the girl had been called by her mother and was running home when she was hit by the car. which was backing into the drive of a neighbouring house. Youth Killed
A youth was killed and three men were taken to the Patea Hospital after a spectacular crash on the HaweraWanganui highway near Whenuakura about 7 p.m. on Saturday. The youth was Ernest Mills, aged 20, single, of Cheshire street, Porirua East.
He was the driver of a car which was travelling toward Wanganui. The three men in hospital are Harold Alan Mills, aged 21, brother of the dead man: Desmond Poutama, aged 27, of Beach road, Patea, the driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash; and his passenger, William i Broughton, aged 31, of EgImont street, Patea. All were j reported to be in a satisfactory condition.
