Ashes Scattered At Sea
The ashes of Mr L. Findlay were scattered at the entrance to Lyttelton Harbour on Sunday from the Naval launch H.M.N.Z.S. Pegasus, the trailing ship of the, Canterbury division of the Royal New Zealand Naval Volunteer Reserve.
A brief service was conducted by Commander R. F Sanderson and was attended by the ship’s company of the launch and friends and asso-
dates of Mr Findlay. Among them were members of the Lyttelton Police, the president of the Lyttelton Watersiders’ Union (Mr E. L. Threadwell), Mr A. Scott, the master of the Maori (Captain A. McIntyre) and the master of the Awanui (Captain P. Dare). The fishing vessel Antares accompanied the naval launch to the harbour entrance. Mr Findlay served in the Royal Navy in the First
World War and with the Royal New Zealand Navy in the Second World War. He served with the Merchant Navy for the remainder of, his life at sea before he retired to Lyttelton where he died on August 14. The picture shows (from left). Chief Petty Officer F. V.
