Another Singing Sinatra

The success of Nancy Sinatra's records “These Boots Are Made For Walking” and “How Does That Grab You, Darling” means that one of Frank Sinatra’s children seems to be making the grade in show business at last, writes Susan Vaughan.

They have not been too successful until now. Frank junior has tried hard at singing but was an embarrassing failure. Even Nancy’s earlier forays Into the "pop” and film world have not been exactly stunning, in spite of her father's influence. Until now, Nancy’s main claim to fame was not because of anything she herself had done, but to her father’s plaintive 1945 song about his then five-year-old daughters “laughing face.” Nancy’s first appearance in public was in 1954, at the age of 14, when she sang a duet with her father. After that she kept out of the public eye until, in September. 1960, she married an American singer. Tommy Sands, in Las Vegas. In 1961 she cut her first disc, and in 1963 made her first screen appearance in “For Those Who Think Young.” Sinatra directed the film himself. While she was acting in another of her father’s films. “Marriage On the Rocks.” in July, 1965, her own marriage was dissolved in the divorce court. How far does Nancy think that having a famous father has helped her career? “Not

at all.” she says. “It has made no difference to me whatsoever. Why, I went to New York and studied drama under a coach.” ‘ Perhaps now that Nancy’s •boots are planted firmly on ithe ladder, she can climb the rest of the way under her own I steam.
