Olympic Player As University Guard

The inclusion of the celebrated Australian Olympic player. W. Linde, in the University of Adelaide men's basketball team to meet the Canterbury representatives in Cowles Stadium on Saturday night has created considerable interest. Lind, a 21-year-old guard, is reputed to be a most spectacular player and is currently the highest- scorer in South Australian A grade basketball. His form this season has been even better than that which won him a place in Australia’s Tokvo Olympic team in 1964.

I Linde scored 29 points when the University of Adelaide beat Southland, 60-35, at I Invercargill on Wednesday. ! Saturday s game will enable Canterbury spectators to compare their own national representative. C. Morns, with the representative of another country. Both men play in the same position, guard, and no doubt will mark one another, at least for some of the game. At 6ft, Linde has a slight height advantage over Morris. who is only sft 9in. However, the Canterbury player has extremely fast reflexes and is regarded as one of the hardest workers in the counit.v The chances of Canterbury winning the game without its regular captain, R. Entwistle, seem fairly remote The team contains two

[ players new to representative level this season. M. Mackay and G. Orchard. However, for its only mateh against an l overseas side, Canterbury I should at least be strong enough to bring out the best .in the tourists. Individual players have sufficient talent to make a good showing. Morris, P. Ross, G. Williams, A. Hounsell and J. Stead, eould make a fairly useful first line-up. Much will depend on the form of Hounsell, Entwistle’s understudy in the centre this season. The teems are: Adelaide University.—K. Seott Iplayer-coachl. A. Need. Sutton. N. Opie. R. Walker. M. Stabarneff. A. Be*s. W Linde. A. Swltajewskt. Canterbury.—C. Morris, M. Askew, J. Stead, G. Williams. R. Hounsell. M. Mackay, G. Orchard. P. Ross.
