De Sade Biography Banned
(N.Z. Prers Axsn.—Copyright > > CANBERRA, August 11. The Customs Minister, Senator K. Anderson, has banned a book on the life of the Marquis de Sade, the French nobleman whose writings gave rise to the word “sadism.” The book is “Satan's
: Saint,” by Guy Endore, published in Britain. The Minister banned the book on the recommendation of the Literary Advisory Board. It has been barred entry under provisions declaring the work blasphemous, indecent or obscene.
Endore’s book is a reconstruction of the strange life of de Sade. It contains long excerpts of some of de Sade’s tortured writings on sexual perversions. : Already, most of de Sade’s works are banned in Australia.
