Woman Doctor Who Works 20-Hour Day
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright? JOHANNESBURG. A frail middle-aged woman doctor who works an average of 20 hours a day and packs more energy than a man twice her size is in Johannes- j
burg to meet local women doctors and see something of the work they do. She is Dr. Fe del Mundo, president of the 10,000 member Medical Women's International Association, which represents 33 nations. But this is only one of her activities. In her home city of Manila, Philippines, she is head of the pediatrics department of the Far Eastern University College of Medicine and also runs the 100-bed Children's Memorial Hospital which she founded. This is an average day in the life of Dr. del Mundo: She gets up at 3 or 4 a.m„ starts her ward rounds at 5.30 a.m, and then lectures at the medi-
cal school. After this she goes back to hospital where she works for the rest of the day. After 10 p.m. she does “not like to be disturbed” because she still has to get through her correspondence and write her column, “Baby and You,” for a weekly newspaper. She became president of the Association in 1963 the first president to come from an Asian country since the organisation was established in 1919.
