DIVISION III BADMINTON
Success For Canterbury The Canterbury division 111 badminton team made a successful start to its quest for the South Island championship when it beat the experienced West Coast team by 11 matches to live in the Skellerup Hall. Christchurch. on Saturday night. After some evenly contested games. Canterbury led 7-5. with the mixed doubles to be played. Then the home side rose to the occasion to win the remaining four games, although it scored only 28 points more than West Coast in the 10 sets played. Results. with Canterbury names first, were:— Men's Singles.—G. Ford beat O. Harrison, 15-2, 15-7; E. Ogier beat T. Lister, 15-10, 15-2: T. Bradbury lost to P. Coll, 11-15, 8-15; B. G. Hadlee beat E. G. Walker. 15-2, 15-5. Men's Doubles.—Ogier and Hadlee lost to Coll and Harri. son, (-15, 14-17; Ford and Bradbury beat Lister and Walker, 15-2, 15-5. Women's Singles.—Miss S. Dench lost to Mrs M. Coleman, 11-5, 5-11, 7-11; Miss L. Tucker beat Mrs P. Rubbo, 11-2, 11-7; Miss S. Ching beat Miss C. Rae. 11-3, 11-1; Miss R. Mackintosh lost to Mrs J. Evans, 9-11, 11-4, 3.11. Women's doubles. Misses Dench and Tucker lost to Me«dames Rubbo and Coleman. 10-15, 15-11, 13-15; Misses Ching and Mackintosh beat Miss Bae and Mrs Evans, 15-4, 17-14. Mixed Doubles.—Ford and Miss Tucker beat Harrison and Mrs Evans, 15-13, 18-13: Ogier and Miss Dench beat Coll and Mrs Rubbo, 15-10, 4-15; 15-8: Bradbury and Miss Ching beat Walker and Mrs Coleman, 10-15. 15-5, 15-8; Hadlee and Miss Mackintosh beat Lister and Miss Rae, 15J1, IH7.
