Man Killed On Roadside
A man died after being struck by a car on the main road five miles south of Clinton at 10 p.m. on Saturday, the Press Association reports.
He was Timothy George Lloyd, aged 24, a shearer, of Gore. His parents live at Mangonui, Northland. He was one of four passengers in a car driven by George Edgar Lowry, aged 27, a stablehand, of Gore. Mr Lowry stopped his car at the side of the road, and Mr Lloyd got out. He was struck by a car travelling south. It did not stop. Mr Lloyd was taken to the Gore Hospital but was found to be dead on arrival. The driver of the car which struck him was later located by the police. The police were not able to say last night whether the driver would be charged. Police manned road-blocks from about 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Girl Shot A 17-year-old girl was acci-
dentally shot in the back as she was sitting In the front seat of a car parked in Roscommon road, Wiri, about 5 p.m. on Saturday. She is Zoe Elizabeth Boxall, a student teacher, resident at Ardmore Teachers’ Training College. She had an operation in the Middlemore Hospital for a severe abdominal injury. Her condition last night was reported to be serious. Name Released The name of the man killed In an accident near Egmont Village on Thursday night was released by the police yesterday. He was Norman Mason, aged 27, of Ocean View parade, New Plymouth. His parents, Mr and Mrs J. Mason live at 13 Steyne house, Acton, London.
