Obituary CAPT. A. F. INMAN
Captain Alfred Frederick Inman who retired from the Union Steam Ship Company's service on August 11, 1954. after 42 years’ service, died in Auckland recently. Captain Inman was born in London on December 10. 1889, and joined the Union Steam I Ship Company on August 1. [1912 as third officer in the first Waraka. Two years later he was promoted to second officer, and in July 1917, to chief officer. As chief officer he served in many well-known vessels, including the first Tofua, the Manuka, Moeraki, and the Maheno and between July 1927 and July 1931 he held acting command of various vessels. Captain Inman was appointed permanent master in June, 1932, when he assumed command of the first Waimea, and later commanded many of the company’s vessels engaged in the New Zealand coastal and trans-Tasman trades. His last command was the Komata.
