Top Golfers In Tie
(N.Z. Pres* Assn.—Copyright) ST. ANDREWS (Scotland). Three of the world’s top golfers—J. Nicklaus, A. Palmer and G. Player—wound up in a dead heat yesterday in a private tournament. United Press International reported. The tournament, sponsored by the 8.8. C., consisted of three rounds, played at three different courses, over three days.
Nicklaus, winner of the British Open last week, forced the deadlock when he shot a two-under-par 70 over the 6996-yard Old Course at St. Andrews. This gave him a 54-hole total of 218, the same as Player and Palmer. The scores at Gleneagles, Carnoustie and St. Andrews, respectively, were: Nicklaus, 72, 76, 70: Palmer, 68, 79, 71: Player. 69, 77, 72.
Australian Referee.—Mr C. Ferguson, an Australian teat referee, will control a Rugby match between Roxburgh and Hratas tn Dunedin on Saturday. Mr Ferguson’s father was a member of the Pirstee Club.
