N.Z. Three In Proms

[From the London Correspndt of “The Pre st”] Three New Zealanders will take part in this season's Henry Wood Promenade Concerts organised by the 8.8. C. in the Royal Albert Hall. They are the violinist Alan Loveday, the mezzo-soprano Janet Kenny, and the baritone Donald Mclntyre. The prom season lasts from July 23 to September 17. It is the 72nd season of London’s proms and the highlights will be the first Sunday concert, the first visit by a foreign orchestra (the Moscow Radio Orchestra), and Sir Malcolm Sargent's 500th appearance on the rostrum. Alan Loveday will be playing with Granville Jones and the London Philharmonic Orchestra Malcolm Arnold’s Concerto for two violins and strings. Janet Kenny, formerly of Christchurch, will soon make her first professional appearance in a remarkable debut as a principal at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera. She sings the Alto Spirit of the Temple in Mozart’s “Die Zauberflote.” A concert performance of the stage production of the opera given at Glyndebourne will form the second night of this year’s “proms” on July 25. Donald Mclntyre, a member of the Sadler's Wells Opera Company for some time, will sing Pantheus in an English performance of Berlioz’s “The Fall of Troy” with selected soloists and the New Philharmonia Orchestra and Chorus.
