Coastal Action
i N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SAIGON, June 20. A United States Coast Guard cutter today forced a gunrunning trawler aground on the coast about 80 miles southwest of Saigon, a United spokesman reported. The 125 ft trawler was unloading weapons for Viet Cong guerrillas in the Mekong delta when the cutter, Point League, closed in. The crew abandoned the vessel. A Coast Guard boarding party found small arms and machine-guns, the spokesman said. It was not known who owned the trawler or where it came from. In the ground war, a 50man enemy unit attacked a United States Marine artillery post before dawn today, lobbing in mortar fire and satchels filled with explosives.
In the air war, United States 852 bombers from Guam staged three new raids against the Viet Cong in South Vietiam. Other United States warplanes raided North Vietnam in 70 missions.
