Dilapidated House Had 191 Occupants
(N.?. Press Asiociationf HAMILTON, June 19. A dilapidated three-bed-roomed house at Kihlkihi was occupied by nine adults and 10 children, the Te Awamutu Magistrate's Court was told on Friday. Rangi and Mary Brown were charged before Mr Stewart Hardy, S.M., with failure to comply with orders Issued under the Housing Improvement and Health Acts.
The charges were laid by the Waipa County Council and the Kihikihi Town Council. Separate charges were preferred under the Health Act for permitting a nuisance caused by infestation by flies. The Magistrate ordered them to pay a total of £7O 10s th fines, Court costs and mriidtors* fees. They did not James Ames, health and building inspector to the Watpa County Council, said the Kihikihi property was inspected after a raw of galnwwiftllftgU in a child. The house Wfis found to be occupied by sight adults and 10 children, in a bed state of repair, smothered with flies and lacking a supply of water. A notice requiring improvements was ignored apart from repairs to a cold water top and it was later found that yet another adult had moved
into the house, bringing the total living there to 19.
Mr Ames said a rubbish hole was attracting flies in a large number, unattended children were playing in the vicinity and a baby was lying in a pram drinking from a battle on which flies were crawling. “I have tried to educate the family in healthy pursuits but with little result,” he said.
