CLOSE TUSSLES IN KAIAPOI SCRAMBLE
G Stapleton and G. Holland, the two riders who finished first and second In the South Island 250 c.c. championship last season, featured in some stirring wheel-to-wheel tussles during the Kaiapot Motor Sports Club's scramble meeting at Moody's Farm on Sunday.
However, it was Stapleton, riding his very fast Husqvarna, who finally emerged victorious over the C.Z. mounted Holland.
D. McNeil, a former New Zealand Isle of Man representative, had his first outing on his new B.S.A. 440 c.c. Victor. This Is the same type of machine that J. Smith (Great Britain) rode to victory In the world championship scramble series this year. This Is the first of these machines to be seen in Canterbury, and was a centre of attraction In the pits area. D. Allan, a well-known rider of seven years ago, returned to scramble racing, and with a few meetings to regain his style will, with the aid of a very fast Matchless Metlsse. prove to be a serious contender for 500 c.c. titles.
B. Gurdler, on his well prepared 350 c.c. A.J.S., dominated the 350 c.c. class racing, and later during the mixed capacity racing proved that he could push some of the 500 c.c. riders to their limit. Results were:—
