Wool Awards Fund
A fund of £60,000 has been vested by Lord Barnby in trustees in New Zealand for the establishment of the Vernon Willey Foundation. “The importance of the wool industry to the prosperity of New Zealand, and the farreaching changes which the industry is undergoing in New Zealand and overseas have created a pressing need for men of high calibre and ability to guide and direct its future,” Lord Barnby said. “The trustees and selection committee will be empowered to make awards to candidates whose qualifications show promise of being able to fill this need in academic or commercial responsibility in the whole field of sheep and wool.
“Full details of the schedule will be available shortly, and it is intended that applications for the first awards will be called for later this year.”
Francis Willey (N.Z.), Ltd., wool merchants, was founded by the first Lord Barnby in 1912. The present Lord Barnby has been a partner in the firm since its inception.
