RACING White Rajah Fit For Oamaru Winter Cup

White Rajah showed that he is making good progress in his preparation for next Tuesday’s Oamaru Winter Cup when he chased Danny Kaye and Filspar home in the third heat of a series of five-furlong trials from the starting gates at Riccarton yesterday.

A thick ground fog made timing the few horses which worked at speed on the No. 6 grass impossible. Those which competed in the heats from the barrier were only visible for the last furlong.

White Rajah (D. Tucker) ended his gallop just ahead of Royal Master (A. R. Swanson) and in a small gap behind Danny Kaye (B. A. Edens) and Filspar (R. K. Moir). It was not surprising that White Rajah could not match free-goers like Danny Kaye and Filspar for pace over five furlongs, but his effort suggested that he will be a fit light-weight for the first leg of the Oamaru Jockey Club’s T.A.B. double. Danny Kaye and Ftlspar are being prepared for the Ashburton meeting next Saturday week. Danny Kaye will run against the hack sprinters in the Moreton Handicap there, and Filspar has been entered for the Maronan Handicap, an event for open milers. The unraced Royal Mastei might make his first appearance at Ashburton. He is a four-year-old King’s Command—Call Me Madam gelding in C. McDonald’s team. The stablemates, Krazikid and Jester Jinks, were otbei Ashburton candidates to shape well in yesterday’s trials. The speedy Krazikid G Gullery) beat Jester Jinks (E G. Low) by a length and a half and 11 others easily in the first heat. Krazikid emerged from the fog with a handy lead, but his stable mate was closing on him al the end. Play Fairer (M. McCann) improved three places from the furlong for third, but was three lengths back. Krazikid is likely to be the favourite for the Moreton Hack Handicap. His stable mate has been entered for th< Maronan and Seafield Hand! caps, but his trainer, P. H Jones, said yesterday that ht probably would run againsi

the open sprinters in the latter event. Play Fairer, which already has some useful placings on her record, could clear maiden class at the same meeting. In the second heat Sir Limond (W. Jackson), Not Guilty fR, K. Moir), and Stumble (A. H. Eastwood) finished in that order at two-length intervals. Sir Limond has no immediate engagement, but Not Guilty and Stumble may clash in the Lyndhurst Two-year-old Handicap at Ashburton. New Mint (K. Hobson) cleared right away to win the fourth heat from Glance Again (A. Reubin) and an unnamed half-brother, by Prince Mahal, to Mister Bud (M. McCann). New Mint is a three-year-old Trovato gelding, prepared by his Halswell ownertrainer, A. T. Woolhouse. He may have his first race in the Maiden Stakes at Ashburton. C. McDonald is preparing Prince Callan and Suede for hurdling careers. Both shaped reasonably well in solo schools over the standard hurdles after the fog cleared. Prince Callan was inclined [to run his fences down, but ideared four of them without [mishap. He probably would have run much better in company. Suede, with the same rider up, gave a much better display. Her leaps were a bit extravagant, but she approached each of her five fences straight and true and never looked like putting a foot wrong. Prince Callan and Suede probably will be schooled together next Saturday morn-

ing. If they gain qualifying tickets, both may run in the Hinds Hack Hurdles at Ashburton.
