Polisher For Stones
A vibrator polisher which had made the polishing of stones considerably quicker was explained by a member Mr R. Lees, at a meeting of the Canterbury Mineral and Lapidary Club. Mr Lees, who made the vibrator, said that by improving on his original vibrator he had produced a machine which could give a high polish to stones quickly and at a reasonably low cost. Mr F. W. Richardson explained his tyre tumbler and showed the club samples of stones he had collected on the West Coast and in Central Otago.
Some of the stones collected at Kakanui Beach, near Oamaru, were of a high quality, said Mr Richardson and many of the samples of quartz and jasper were different from stones found at Birdlings Flat
The more common barrel tumbler was demonstrated by Mr G. Campbell, who also gave members practical advice on polishing.
