Southland Again
(N.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL. The Southland Rugby team, fresh from its triumph over the Lions on Saturday, yesterday eclipsed a classy-looking New Zealand Universties team by 24 points to three at Invercargill. Playing conditions were good, and when, after some desultory exchanges for more than half the first spell, the Universities looked like halting Southland’s run of successes, the game brightened with both sides keen to open up play. Southland led 8-3 at half-time. In the second half, with the wind and sun at its back, the Southland pack gained control. The full-back, B. J. Cullen, scored 12 points for Southland, with two penalty goals and three conversions, and wing three-quarters, P. E. Savage and G. A. Townsend, scored two tries each. M. Williment kicked a penalty goal for Universities.
