Leaving Squad

The prominent University player, M. Askew, has withdrawn from the Canterbury men’s basketball training squad in order to concentrate on his studies. He won a place in the A team last season and has been a regular member of the side in its matches so far this year.

His withdrawal Is a considerable setback to the Canterbury coach-selector (Mr L. N. Saunders), already sorely troubled by the non-avail-ability of leading players and follows the loss of M. Busch through injury. A member of the University A team which leads the senior inter-dub competition. Askew has scored more than 80 points this season. He will probably be replaced in the Canterbury A team by the tall Burnham centre, G. I. Costello, who has already represented Canterbury B this season. Canterbury’s next match Is against Nelson in Cowles Stadium on June 25.
