Three New Zealanders missed their last chances to play in the Wimbledon tennis championships when they were eliminated after the first round of the “Wimbledon Qualifying." Those to fail were O. Parun, K. Woolcott and D. Simmonds. Parun, a member of New Zealand’s Davis Cup squad, was beaten by a Belgian, P. Hombergen, who won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2. Woolcott lost to L. Pawlick (Germany), 6-2, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Simmonds lost to R. Henando (United States), 6-1, 7-5, 6-8, 6-2.
