Accord Welcomed By Malaysian King
(N.Z.P.A. Reuter—Copyright) KUALA LUMPUR, June 14. The King of Malaysia said today his country looked forward to peace, co-operation and friendship in South-east Asia after its Bangkok peace talks with Indonesia and resumption of relations with the Philippines.
Sultan Sir Ismail Nasiruddin Shah, the elected monarch was speaking from the throne to the joint houses of the Federal Parliament in Kuala Lumpur at the opening of the new. session. “As soon as the Bangkok agreement is ratified by both Governments, Indonesian confrontation towards Malaysia will end,” the King said. “With the agreement reached in Bangkok and the restoration of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Malayasia, we can look forward towards a new era of peace, co - operation and friendly relations.” The King said that with the resumption of the activities
of the Association of Southeast Asia, it was hoped all its programmes would be implemented for the benefit of Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines (its members). The King described last year’s separation of Singapore and Malaysia as a regrettable event, but said there had been no alternative.
