The Governor-General (Sir Bernard Fergusson) has been appointed a life member of the Returned Services’ Association.—(P.A.) Mr K. B. Longmore, chairman of the Apple and Pear Bo'ard, and the general manager, Mr D. L. Waller, have left for London for freight rate negotiations with th* Conference Shipping Lines. Preliminary negotiations begin on June 22 and the main talks on June 28.—(P.A.) Mr R. S. Martin, of Rotorua, has been elected president of the Institute of County Engineers. Messrs K. H. P. Beck (Geraldine), I. Calvert (Waimairi), G. L. K. Drew (Waimate West), and A. C. T. Thomsen (Levels) were elected to the committee (PA.) Mr V. M. Hill has been appointed manager of the Christchurch branch of the New Zealand Apple and Pear Marketing Board. Mr Hill, who succeeds the late Mr A. H. Hutt, has been assistant branch manager at Nelson. Mr C. H. Shepherd has been appointed assistant manager of the Christchurch branch. He was formerly cool stor* officer at Christchurch. Mr H. P. Smith has been appointed deputy-president of the Canterbury Savings Bank.
