K. Langford Hurt (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN. K. Langford, rider of Bayline which fell at the first fence in the Dunedin Hack and Hunters’ Steeplechase at Wingatui on Saturday, was taken to hospital with a suspected broken collarbone. W. C. Gye was also taken to hospital for observation after his mount Jolly Fox had fallen. Goodbye was pulled up after half a mile. His rider. S. D. Hawthorne, said that Goodbye had Mt the running rail heavily when attempting to Improve on the Inside of Jolly Fox. The Inquiry was adjourned until evidence could Be taken from Gye. C. L. Reeves was fined £lO after being found guilty of causing interference to Captain Morgan at the furlong. Reeves rode Barney Into third place, but after the inquiry Barney was relegated to fourth and Captain Morgan was promoted to third.
Explanation Accepted D. P. Wilson, owner-trainer of Big Smoke which won the Members’ Handicap, was asked by the judicial committee to explain the improved form of the horse. Wilson said better track conditions, and the services of the experienced rider, J. R. Dowling, contributed to the horse’s improved form. Willson’s explanations were accepted.
