Linwood’s Second Haff Rally

LINWOOD 26: K. Gimblett, F. McCormick, A. Mansfield, P. Jellyman (2) tries; Jellyman two conversions and one

penalty, McCormick two conversions. MARIST 0. Linwood came home with a terrific burst in the second spell against Marist, scoring 21 points. Including five tries. Linwood was fortunate to be leading by three points at halftime. Apart from the first 10 minutes, the lively Marist forwards had bustled Linwood into many errors and kept it pinned in its own territory. However, Linwood returned a different team in the second spell. Its forwards settled down to counter the bustling tactics of Marist and soon were able to dominate play. The Linwood backs took advantage of this. K. Gimblett was in fine form with strong swerving runs. F. McCormick made regular sorties into the back-line. B. Mason was often prominent in the Linwood pack, particularly in the second spell, and M. Richards was never far from the ball. Of the Marist pack V. Vlasso showed plenty of speed and was often there to gather the loose ball. T. MqKendry covered intelligently and P. Dolg won a lot of the ball at number two in the line-out. The referee was Mr J. M. Gowans.
