Graveney’s Late Bid

Graveney made a further bid for selection for next Thursday’s second test against the West Indies when he hit a superb 88 in 110 minutes for Worcestershire against Middlesex on Saturday. Graveney, who will be 39 the day the test starts, hit 13 boundaries and shared a four-wicket stand of 79 in 45 minutes with the coloured South African, B. D'Oliveira.
Close of play scores were:— At Brentwood: Essex 284 (G. Cass 65; ’D. Acfield 6/69), Cambridge University, 64/5. At Bristol: Warwickshire 252/4 (65 overs) (R. Abberley 91, D. Amiss 97), Gloucestershire 113/3 (45 overs).
At Chesterfield: Yorkshire 258/6 (65 overs) (G. Boycott 63, D. B. Close 77), Derbyshire 73/3 (30 overs).
At Oxford; Oxford University 172 (R. Gllliat 85), Leicestershire 71/3. At the Oval: Surrey 156/9 (65 overs). Kent 146/3 (54 overs).
At Worcester: Worcestershire 237/4 (65 overs) (T. Graveney 88), Middlesex 122/7 (52 overs). At Northampton: Somerset 195/8 (65 overs) (M. Kitchen 68). Northamptonshire 142/6 (62 overs).
