RANGIORA FIRST
Blank Cup Winner Rangiora won the Blank Cup competition after a gripping finish with Russiley A on the Rangiora course yesterday. With six matches decided, the teams were tied at three-all; Russley needed to halve one of the last two games to win the cup on a count-back. As the last four teed off at the 190 yd eighteenth, E. S. F. Holland (Russley) was one down to M. L. Ryan and J. W. Clarke (Russiley) was one down to J. D. Lawson. Ryan reached the green with a splendid iron, but Holland was short and lost his chance. Clarke and Lawson both missed the green and Clarke was faced with an Bft putt to win the hole and square the match. But the task was too great and Lawson had two putts from 20ft to hold bis advantage and take Rangiora to victory. Results:—Rangiora 5, Russiley A 3; Waitikiri 6, Christchurch 2; Templeton 5, Russley B 3: Avondale 6, Waimairi Beach 2. Results of other inter-club golf competitions were:— Simon Cup.—Windsor A 6, Rawhiti A 2: Windsor B 44, Waimairi Beach 34: Rangiora 8, Hagley 0; Rawhiti B 54, Harewood 24. Patterson Cup.—Akaroa 74, Richmond Hill 4; Kaituna 44, Charteris Bay 34; Greendale 4, Lincoln 4. Templeton Cup. Culverden 64, Cheviot B 14; Cheviot A 4, Hawardqn 4.
