Project Mohole
Sir,—“S.W.M.” should realise that projects such as Mohole and space programmes must be viewed against the existing social perspective. Though untold benefits accrue from such research, these benefits are still only side effects and incidental. And who benefits really? The masses?. Psychological research has come to light with revolutionary practical concepts by means of which sick minds can be healed, personalities made whole; yet on a world scale mental misery increases; there is no peace. Advances from technological research are unavailable to millions while a minority live like potentates. Projects such as Mohole (as such) and Russian and American space programes (as such) i.re an insult to the “producers of all social values” when society is in such a mess and badly needs straightening out.— Yours, etc., E. W. H. June 9, 1966.
