Aim To Help Farm Production Drive
Three sub-committees set up by the North Canterbury Agricultural Advisory Committee were drawing up programmes of work to be considered by the general committee later this month, the publicity and extension subcommittee of the main committee said in a statement The sub-committee said that in the major farming districts of New Zealand committees had been convened to further the aims of the Agricultural Production Council by (1) providing information on all aspects of increasing production; (2) reviewing livestock trends and assisting the national council generally in its aims: (3) defining and evaluating technical and economic factors limiting production; and (4) receiving and considering general inquiries on district development and progress. While these were broad aims covering New Zealand as a whole, local district committees would be dealing with domestic matters that concerned the district more intimately. To this end the North Canterbury Agricultural Advisory Committee—covering the district from the Waimakariri to the Conway (the same
district as covered by North Canterbury Federated Farmers) had set up three subcommittees: (1) Farm finance, (2) agricultural production and statistics, and (3) publicity and extension. There was no definite policy ‘aid down for these subcommittees but it was suggested that the following topics might be considered: (1) factors limiting production; (2) availability of short and long-term finance; and (3) review of current publicity and methods of informing farmers of services and so on available.
